^ No, that was not me slamming my head against the keyboard multiple times, though that’s a close guess! This is obviously the sound of the amazing new Wonder Woman theme!

I’m such a fake fan– honestly, I haven’t even read the comics. FIGHT ME.**

I was tagged by the sweetie pie Emma @ Thoughts of a Brown Eyed Girl, whose blog is always such a delight to read, and who you should definitely check out because she, like Wonder Woman, is also THE BEST.

**Actually, don’t because my arms have all the strength of two limp spaghetti noodles

This tag is in honor of Leigh Bardugo’s Wonder Woman novel which is coming out SUPER SOON. I’ve heard nothing but praise for her latest installment, so I just KNOW that this will live up to the hype.

Wonder Woman: Warbringer (DC Icons, #1)

She will become one of the world’s greatest heroes: WONDER WOMAN. But first she is Diana, Princess of the Amazons. And her fight is just beginning. . . .

1. Wonder Woman:  Your favorite badass female book character.

Oh, god. I suck at choosing favorites. If you ask me my favorite anything, I’d probably reply with a list of ten hundred different things, in no particular order.

Sooo, I’d have to say one of my favorites is Inej Ghafa from Leigh Bardugo’s Six of Crows! She is such a pure, beautiful, and delicate soul but can still brutally murder you using an assortment of various shiny, sharp objects.

I would be so down to read an entire 10-book series dedicated to just her and Kaz sailing around the seas, beating up slave owners.

2. Fantasy Island:  A book setting you want to escape to.

Part of me really really wants to immediately go for Hogwarts because… you know, it’s Hogwarts.

But I thought about it for a moment, and let’s be real, ELYSIUM is the place to go. It’s like paradise, basically. And the idea of “paradise” in itself is very subjective. (One person might love cheese and so their idea of paradise would be rolling around in football fields full of mozzarella sticks. I, on the other hand, would rather chew my own hand off than take a bite out of that GROSS DISGUSTING WHITE jiggly substance people somehow call food.*)

Sooo, for me, paradise = no tears + no stress + all the boba in the world + being able to TRANSPORT YOURSELF TO ANY BOOK SETTING YOU WANT.

ALL OF THEM. EVERY SINGLE LAST ONE.**

*I know I’m such a cheese hater please don’t hurt me

**and don’t tell me “HANNAH!! but… that’s not how Elysium works!!! Have you even read PJ??” because first of all, HOW DARE and second of all, stop shattering my dreams

3. London:  A hyped book that let you down.

ahdieh_flame in the mist

Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh. (You can read my rantish review here!!) I was expecting lots of great action and it didn’t really deliver, #sorry not sorry. Also Mariko, that punky little poophole, was so aggravating to read about.

4.  Steve Trevor:  A book that has a beautiful cover and a great story.

And I Darken by Kiersten White!! I!! Love!! This!! Series!!! Read!! It!! Now!!

Image result for and i darken kiersten white22817331

This was HANDS-DOWN the prettiest book cover of 2016, and the insides are just as pretty as the outside!! Actually, it’s not as much a “pretty” book as a bloody, twisty, morally gray one filled with assassination attempts and sibling-to-sibling angst, buuuut you get the point!!

Put succinctly, it’s a gender-swapped retelling of Vlad the Impaler, though there’s surprisingly not that much impaling involved– not yet, anyways.

PLUS it features one of my fave pair of siblings in the entire world. Lada is such a cute, vicious little monster, and Radu is just cute.

5. Lasso of Truth:  A book you hated.

ACID by Emma Pass.

13062484

I wish I could’ve thrown acid on this book, I hated it so much. Talk about a waste of twenty dollars.

Never heard of this?

GOOD. Let’s keep it that way.

6.  Wonder Woman’s Shield:  A book so sad you need a shield.

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. And I don’t think a shield cuts it for this one. Even Wonder Woman’s shield isn’t enough to stop the waves of devastation that this book will wreak upon your poor, soft gentle heart.

Literally. It will cut your soul into tiny little pieces.

(SIDE RAMBLE: I think part of the reason I’m still so emotionally unstable about this book– more so than usual, I mean–  is because I read it while on my period. Physically, I usually feel perfectly fine, since l don’t get too much of those awful cramps or muscle pains, but emotionally, I AM A NUTCASE. I somehow always end up crying on my bed at three in the morning, surrounded by bags of potato chips.)

7. Ares: A villain that is scary but you can’t seem to hate.

WARNING: THE FOLLOWING RESPONSE CONTAINS SPOILERS TO THE GRISHA TRILOGY AND THE RED QUEEN SERIES!

Would it be cliche if I said the Darkling? And would you guys all come after me with pitchforks if I said Maven?  To be honest, I don’t find him scary at all– more like lonely and sad and terrified of losing everything and also a little bit crazy in the head.

Image result for running away gif
me after I tell someone I still don’t HATE Maven even after all the terrible things he did

I KNOW. Hannah, what are you thinking?? You once claimed to hate a character just because she bragged too much about math!! And now you’re fine with a lying, manipulating piece of psychopath??

(YES HE’S PROBABLY INSANE and obviously I don’t condone his actions but I just can’t help it, he’s still such a lost and vulnerable little child in my eyes)

8.  The Amazons:  A book that you wish had more / better LGBT+ representation.

Hmmm. Because I’m all about that love and positivity**, I’ll talk about a super heartwarming book with AMAZING rep instead: Exit, Pursued by a Bear!

Exit, Pursued by a Bear

Not only is the cover totally tumblr-worthy– just look at that font and that pretty gradient sky– the book itself is beautiful, too.

At its core, it’s a story about friendship and recovery, and it deals with difficult/sensitive topics in such a respectful and empowering way. Polly is truly one of the best best friends I’ve read about in contemporary YA.

**Flashback to that one time I wrote about all the movies I hated. Obviously this all just reinforces the fact that I am a kind and loving soul

and yAAAyyy I’m happy to hear that the sequel didn’t disappoint!! I wish I spent more time reading NIR because the longer it takes to finish, the less you have to wait for the last book to come out… *cries*

  3. I still need to read the Grisha series so I only know Inej through hearsay… BUT THE HYPE IS HUGE! ❤ I actually didn't hate Maven in The Red Queen, lol I hated the girl… she who shall not be named… she made me sick *cries* I heard the Darkling is SOO COOL! Yes to our beloved siblings!! I love book tags, lol… We get to talk so much books… And The Book Thief!! Such a great YA WWII book!!

    • BOOK TAGS ARE AMAZING AND I LOVE DOING THEM.

Yes, the Grisha Trilogy is super hyped, and rightfully so!! XD But to be completely honest, I think the SoC duology is much better in terms of writing and character development– Leigh Bardugo grew as a writer, and it shows!! BUT THE GRISHA TRILOGY IS STILL SUPER FUN. *whispers* the darklinggggggg

and yep, M*re is prettyyy unpopular!! I get why because her character doesn’t really stand out; she’s just not very interesting to read about. I can’t help it, I think Maven is so fascinating!!

  4. You’re hilarious. 😀 And yes to so many of these! I have been excited for the new “Wonder Woman: Warbringer” book for MONTHS. Ever since I learned about it. I’m a little worried it won’t live up to the grand ideas I have in my head?? But it’s fine! I’m sure it will be wonderful. Also, I always gasp a little bit every time I come upon “Now I Rise” and “And I Darken.” Seriously, those titles are UH-MAY-ZING. I really love them. And yes about “The Book Thief.” That book = tears for days. It’s so darn good.

    • SAME I’ve been hyping myself up since day one, and whenever Bardugo releases another teaser I mentally freak out BECAUSE I WANT TO READ IT SO BADLY.

And ahHHHh I seriously love those books so so much!! Now I Rise is probably hands-down the best sequel I’ve read this year, PLUS The Book Thief is as of now MY FAVORITE BOOK of all time. ❤ ❤

  5. AHH Thanks for tagging me!! This IS the best tag ever! YES INEJ, she’s just the best and probably one of my all time favorite characters. I’m reading Flame in the Mist right now and I’m sad to see it disappointed you because I had high hopes for it. I was also hoping for lots of Mariko fighting scenes 😦 .

And as to answer your questions, YES I’M SO READY FOR THE WONDER WOMAN NOVEL! I love Bardugo and my expectations are so high I really hope I’m not disappointed. My favorite superheroes are (sorry, can’t pick one 😀 ): Wonder Woman (duh), Captain Marvel, and Miss Marvel (she’s a more recent favorite).

    • Inej is queen, honestly. And HAHA, I personally really really *really* did not care for the characters, but I hope you end up loving it!! :^)

Ooooh I’ve heard Captain Marvel is getting featured in the latest Avengers movie, so I’m super excited for that, too!! And same, it’s always so hard for me to pick favorites, I always end up rattling off 10000 different things. XD

  6. This is a super fun book tag! I love how psyched everyone is for the launching of Wonder Woman (TODAY!) — considering I bet 2/3 of the reading audience didn’t care that much about Wonder Woman before they saw that Leigh Bardugo was writing it. 😉

Books on your list above I’ve read:
The Book Thief – Loved it, but didn’t cry as much as everyone else seemed to… I guess I’ve just read enough WWII fiction that I knew what to expect? Or I’m a cold heartless deamon.
Flame in the Mist – I TOTALLY need to read your review. I am posting mine tomorrow. I agree that Mariko was awful, but I loved how unreliable she was and how we got to watch her lies define her as she developed. I also wasn’t expecting much going into it, honestly. O_o
Six of Crows – YES. Inej and Kaz just sailing around kicking butt and taking names. It would be broody and actiony and funtastic and witty. MOAR PLZ.

Also– favorite superhero: Batman. For all the reasons I love Kaz Brekker. Moody, broody, actiony, and pretending he has no heart in order to save the people he loves. Super flawed, but super arrogant. Hilarious.

    Liked by 1 person

    • Aw, thanks!! AND YES I AM SO SO EXCITED I NEED TO PURCHASE IT IMMEDIATELY.

My love for Wonder Woman TOTALLY didn’t start as soon as I realized Leigh Bardugo was writing the book. Or as soon as I watched Gal Gadot kick butt on the movie screen. 😉 (just kidding, it totally DID, but can you blame me???)

I’m just a very emotional person so tears just flow like waterworks whenever something remotely sad happens in a book. And HAHA, I can’t wait to read your Flame in the Mist review!! Mariko was personally *such* a pain to read about. :’)

YEESS, I’ve found another fellow kaz brekker lover!! He and Inej are such adorable murderous darlings. They need their own series, STAT.

      Liked by 1 person

      • I am honestly a bit on the fence about this Wonder Woman book. And honestly, I have no idea why. Gal Gadot did a great job in that movie, and I’ve loved Wonder Woman comics for years. I guess it’s the idea of a Wonder Woman novelization which gives me pause? Don’t get me wrong– it’s probably going to be amazing and I’ll feel like a butt for even remotely being uninterested for a hot second. Let’s see what the reviews say. 😉

I look forward to reading your thoughts on my Flame in the Mist review. Overall, I feel like the good outweighed the bad… But, well, I have a weakness for Feudal Japan. And while I wanted to punch Mariko ALL THE TIME, I still thought she was the most redeeming part of the book. No joke.

I would die for a Kaz/Inej series. Or just more with the whole gang! Did they never get waffles?! I MUST KNOW

        Liked by 1 person

      • HAHAHA, hope you decide to pick it up soon!! 😀 I’m pretty sure this is the first novelization of Wonder Woman, so it’s bound to be something special. ❤

And omg, I also ADORE reading about feudal Japan. The descriptions were so pretty, but at the same time I felt that the author's flowery writing slowed down/weighed down the plot? AHH MARIKO. *facepalm* I don't even know what I have against her, I just remember that I detested reading about her.

So many mysteries left unsolved… now that you pointed it out, I need to figure out whether they got waffles or not??? I need a short story ASAP :')

  7. I don’t think there is such a thing as a fake Wonder Woman fan! I came to love her through the old TV show and now the movie. I think it’s great we can all love different representations of her!

  8. hI!!! I LOVED your answers 🙂
Inej –> yasssssss. honestly, if Leigh Bardugo wrote more books I would gobble them all up!! I can’t believe it’s only a duology. that Elysium place sounds hella creepy! *shudders* I desperately want to read AND I DARKEN but waaaa I can’t yet bc money and its not at my library *cries*. I haven’t read the book thief because I’m #terrified that I’m going to be crying the ENTIRE time. And oooohhhhhhh the darrrrrklingggg. I can’t hate him either, idk why?

    Great answers!

    • AHH, thank you so much!! AND YES ABOUT INEJ. I need a spin-off story wherein Kaz and Inej travel around the world doing badass things. *winks @ Leigh bardugo*

(random note: OKAY so for some reason Kaz’s name autocorrected to Kazoo…..#confused)

And OMG, you should def read And I Darken whenever you get the chance!! I relate to you so hard about the money thing, my wallet always seems to be dishearteningly empty. I blame boba. PLUS The Book Thief is such a beautiful book. ❤

  9. Oooh I love this tag! And don’t worry. I’m a HUGE fan of Wonder Woman, but I have yet to read a single comic about her haha. But I really liked the movie and Bardugo’s upcoming WW release is gonna be good. I can already tell! Inej is certainly one of my favorite badass female characters. She’s both sensitive AND fierce. Such a well-balanced character. And I freaking love And I Darken and Now I Rise. Lada and Radu are one of my favorite sibling relationships, even though theirs is pretty jacked up. Can’t wait to see how their relationship works out in the third book! Also, who doesn’t love The Darkling?? Awesome answers! 😀

    • SAME THOUGH, this tag is amazing. I need to get my hands on her Wonder Woman book ASAP :”’) and yes, Inej is honestly on my list of favorite-heroines-ever?? She can slice guys in half yet somehow manages to be the sweetest cinnamon roll ever. And OMG LADA AND RADU NEED TO REUNITE. PLS PLS PLS let this happen @kiersten white *single tear* </3

      • I have a feeling the third book is going to be a tear-jerker. Or a heart-breaker. I don’t think it’s going to end well, especially for Lada! I’m so excited but SCARED to see what happens between her and her brother, and also what happens to her in general

        Liked by 1 person

      • IT’S GOING TO BE BOTH.

oh my GOD I need ALL of my precious babies to be safe or else I will SHRIVEL UP INTO A TINY BALL AND DIE. I’m terrified to find out what’s going to happen to her and Radu…. *gnaws on nails* PLEASE THEY MUST BE SAFE
